Frequently Asked Questions
What is therapy?
Therapy is a professional, confidential process where individuals talk with a trained therapist to explore feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The goal is to help clients improve their mental health and overall well-being.
Who can benefit from therapy?
Anyone! People seek therapy for a variety of reasons, including stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-growth.
How do I know if a therapist is right for me?
It’s important to feel comfortable and supported. If you don’t click with your first counselor, it’s okay to try someone else—finding the right fit is key.
What types of therapy are there?
There are several types, including individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and specialized forms like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or trauma-focused therapy. We also offer Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), most beneficial from those who suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), most beneficial for those who suffer from trauma, and counseling services for Substance Use Disorders.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some people may only need a few sessions, while others might work with a therapist for months or even years.
Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
Yes, mostly. What you share is private, but there are exceptions—like if you’re in danger of harming yourself or others, or if there’s suspected abuse, or your therapist is subpoenaed by a judge to testify in court.
What happens during a therapy session?
You talk with your counselor about what’s going on in your life. The counselor listens, asks questions, and helps you reflect. Sessions are usually about 45–60 minutes.
Is therapy the same as giving advice?
Not really. Therapists don’t typically give direct advice. Instead, they help you explore your own thoughts and emotions so you can make informed decisions that work best for you.
Can therapy really help?
Yes! Research shows counseling can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress, and improve relationships, self-esteem, and overall mental health.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, TrustMark, McLaren Health Plan, McLaren Advantage, McLaren Medicaid, and Blue Cross Complete Medicaid. We are currently working on adding other insurance plans as well.
